The EDEN-Project

On the 25th of April we visited the EDEN-Project. Right after breakfast we drove for almost two hours to this amazing place, that was build inside a hole due to clay excavation. Once you passed through the main building it was like entering a whole new futuristic world. Suddenly you were infront of these huge domes, that they called biomes. We passed through the beautiful nature to the core of the place where our guides for the day presented themselves. 

After entering the mediterranean biome, we had an assignment for the tropical biome, that left us all speechless. It was indescribable the reaction of entering this new climate and we learned a lot about our need for the rainforest and all of it's features.

Dartmoor and climbing

On the 22. of April we visited Dartmoor. The weather wasn't exactly the best and it was pretty cold but we still had fun and we learned interesting things, like that people in the past used stones as guideposts. 

In the afternoon we climbed in the garden on crades and on a little tower and our goal was to punch a ball which was hanging on a string near the tower. 

Dartmoor and Brentor Church

I will never forget the amazing atmosphere of Dartmoor. It seems endless in beauty, freedom, nature and silence. These pictures show Brentor church during sunset. These very simple and old churches fit perfectly with the deep moor. Then we walked back home with torches through the ponies, sheep and cows. The weather is quite rough there or like Jo said ,,a bit chilly‘‘. Fortunately we had two adorable dogs with us and didn‘t meet the Hound of Baskerville! It was a wonderful experience to admire English countryside in such conditions!

 

Plymouth

 On our second day we went to a rugby match in Plymouth, after we went to Looe. We got to Plymouth with a ferry. The two teams that played against each other were Plymouth Albion and the Taunton Titans. It was kind of fun to watch, even though we have never seen a Rugby match live. Especially the vibe was great, everybody cheered for their team. Plymouth won with 47 points, Taunton just had 17 points. It was a quite cool experience! :)

After the match we went to a pub called “the ship” and ate dinner there. We either got fish and chips or a burger, depending on what you chose the night before.

3rd day

 After breakfast we drove to the a beatiful spot at the sea, where we took nice pictures. Some of us drank a cup of hot chocolate because the whether wasn't that nice and a little bit rainy. We had lunch there as well. Afterwards we drove to another beach, where we could decide if we like to try surfing. Some of us inlcluded me decided to take this chance although the rainy whether. We had much fun and it was a great experience. Even the sun came out while we were in the water, obviously with wetsuits. Surfing was great!

The Eden project

 We visited the so called Eden project. The Eden project is built in a old clay “mine”. There are two geodesic tubular steel domes. In them are over 3.000 different kinds of plants, flowers, trees and so on. It was so beautiful!

Second Day

On the second day we visited a little town named looe, that is located on the shore. There we attentended a tour trough the local R.N.L.I (Royal National lifeguard institution) station, they explained us what they are doing, which boats they use and that everybody in the R.N.L.I is a volunteer. 

In the afternoon we visited the city Plymouth, where we went to a pub and ate fish & chips or Burgers, after dinner we had 15 minutes to look around a bit and then we drove back to moorland hall.

First Day

After breakfast we went for a walk through Dartmoor with John and Jo. John, who was our guide, told us a lot about Dartmoor and its history. Afterwards we went to the National Park Visitor Centre in Princetown and had a look at Dartmoor Prison from a distance. After lunch at Moorland Hall we did a climbing tour and jumped off a 7 metre high pole (secured of course). Because of all the experiences and activities we were very tired and fell asleep quickly.

21st of April 2022, 9 a.m. Our flight takes off in exactly 2 hours, so we start checking in the 40 people of our group. At 10.15 everybody has passed through the security check and now we are sitting in gate 1 of "Salzburg Airport". Everybody is nervously waiting that the boarding starts, and when it finally does, we all sprint right to the airplane and are getting ready for takeoff. The last message before I woudn`t be having internet for 9 days I sent to my parents. "From no on no longer available- flights taking off right now. Love you." During the flight I watched an episode of my favorite Netflix show, "Breaking Bad". After 55 minutes we landed at Frankfurt Airport. This time there was no need to rush, because we had four hours of resdence time before our flight to Bristol would leave. So we explored the airport with no stress and ate lunch, before our one hour flight to Bristol took of. This flight was by far more uncomfortable as the one before, but when we landed in England nobody got the idea to complain. Outside the airport, Jo and Kim- the owner of Moorland Hall- have already been waiting for us and immediatly took us on the bus to our accomodation so that we can have dinner on time. After a two hour ride- with countless beautiful impressions of the countryside- we finally arrived at Moorland Hall at 10 p.m. and had some lasagne, before we were sent to our rooms. We were supposed to be sleeping by eleven o`clock, but in our room it wasn`t quiet until 2 a.m. ...

Even though this day maybe doesn`t seem special to you, it still has a big meaning for me. I have been looking forward to this journey for 5 years and finally,  what always felt like a dream came to reality.
